The city of canals is shrouded in mystery... Discover its secrets with this free walking tour!
Carnivals and Secrets: Venice Free Tour
This alternative free tour of Venice begins at the main entrance to the Church of San Simeone Piccolo, in the centre of the Santa Croce neighbourhood.
The tour takes in the other side of Venice, leaving behind the major tourist areas like St. Mark's Square. This is a city filled with hidden gems, away from the throngs of cruise passengers and more who daily fill the “Serenísima”.
On this free walking tour of Venice's legends, we'll discover some of the stories only the locals know. On the banks of the Gran Canal we'll learn about the devastating Black Death, a terrible illness which decimated the city in the 14th century.
Then the tour continues around the San Paolo neighbourhood, where we'll see the details of the Campo San Paolo - the nerve centre of the area. It's here that we'll recommend some of the best bars in the area to enjoy a spritz, one of Venice's typical indulgences!
And the tour will also pass by a traditional Venetian squero - a gondola workshop to you and I! And the free tour comes to an end next to the Galleria dell'Accademia, in the Dorsoduro neighbourhood to the south of the Gran Canal. Here you'll be able to see the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, itself home to many a legend...
Group Sizes
This free tour does not admit bookings for more than 6 people, even if they are made under different bookings. If your group is larger than this, you should reserve the private tour of Venice.
