Murgia Materana Hiking Tour
We'll meet at the indicated time in Piazza Matteotti, from where we'll head towards the Murgia Materana Regional Park.
To get to this stunning natural park filled with history, we'll cross the Murgia plateau. Did you know the Murgia Materana Regional Park and its cave churches were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007? In the park, you'll find settlements dating back to the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras, as well as remains of medieval villages and convents.
While hiking through the hills and exploring the rock caves of the park, we'll also encounter unique geological traits, such as the deep karst breccias that form impressive ravines.
During the hike, we'll also pass through pastoral communities, which were built by the hermit monks that lived there, and cave paintings from the Greek-Byzantine period.
After two and a half hours of exploring this amazing park, we'll take you back to the starting point to say our goodbyes.
