Witches of York Tour
Description
At the scheduled time we'll meet beside the Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate sign, the shortest street in York with the longest name. From there we'll begin our petrifying tour of the witches. Be ready to scream!
We'll start this tour by touring Shambles, which will lead us to the Minister Quarter, Petergate and Stonegate. What facts grabbed your attention to you about these gloomy streets in York? What are the legends surrounding the witches in this city? A real witch will reveal all of this to us throughout the tour.
First, we'll learn of the history of the real witches of Yorkshire and the greatest injustices that they were served. We'll continue walking through the cobblestone streets of York at sunset while we learn about Mary Bateman. Was she really an assassin?
We'll then follow in the footsteps of our trusted witch to the church of St Crux, which used to be the largest medieval church in York. After we'll walk to King's Square and Bookbinders Alley. There we'll hear the story of a magic tree that also was related to the work of a witch...
The next stop will take place in the oldest neighbourhood in York, the iconic Minister Quarter, we'll stop in front of a pub where a very famous conspirator once lived. We'll walk through Petergate, where we'll continue hearing scary stories and after we'll make our way to the front of one of the most impressive cathedrals in the world, York Minister.
Before finishing our tour of the Witches of York, we'll walk through Stonegate to discover even more sinister and spine-tingling facts. After an hour, we'll return to Shambles to put an end to our tour.
