Moors, Whitby & The Yorkshire Steam Railway Day Trip

Explore the charming and picturesque Yorkshire region with this Moors, Whitby & The Yorkshire Steam Railway Day Trip. You'll enjoy the quaint seaside town, the must-see train ride and traditional moorland villages.

Moors, Whitby & The Yorkshire Steam Railway Day Trip

We'll meet opposite the Dean Court Hotel at 9 am in York and begin our day trip passing through Strensall, Sheriff Hutton and Hovingham.

Our first stop will be Hutton-le-Hole to see the traditional stone-built houses and the tranquil village common. Next, we'll drive over the North York Moors towards Blakey Ridge, the highest point on the Moors, and Ralph's Cross, before heading to Whitby. As we arrive, the guide will reveal the town's history and points of interest.

You'll then have 2 hours 30 minutes free to explore Whitby and its must-see attractions including the Endeavour Experience, the Captain Cook Museum, the Bark Endeavour, and Whitby Abbey. We also recommend trying out a British favourite, fish and chips, at the famous Magpie Café. You can choose alternative drop-offs in Whitby, these being the Harbour or the Abbey.

There is also the opportunity to experience the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The train leaves Whitby at 2 pm for a 45-minute journey around Grosmont and Goathland, which you might recognise as Hogsmead Station from the famous wizarding world. This option is to be paid on the day of the activity.

If you prefer not to opt for the train ride, the bus will take us to Goathland by road, where we'll learn more about the fictional locations of 'Hogsmead', and 'Aidensfield', from the popular British TV show.

The tour will then continue on to Snod Hill where we'll find out about the RAF Fylingdales Pyramid, and the Hole of Horcum. As we head back to York we'll travel past beautiful views of the Howardian Hills and Howard Castle.

The tour will end back at the meeting point in York at 5:15 pm.
