On this day trip from Yerevan, we'll travel to the north of Armenia to visit the town of Gyumri and the famous Black Fortress, linked to the Russian army.
Day Trip Details
At the designated time, we'll meet on Nalbanyan Street, 96. From the capital of Armenia, we'll drive to Gyumri, one of the main cities in the north of the country.
Upon arrival in Gyumri, we'll first visit the Sev Berd fortress. At this bastion, better known as the Black Fortress, we'll discover why it was built with a circular plan. In addition, we'll tell you what role this fortress played in the Russo-Turkish war that took place in the first half of the 19th century.
We'll continue our tour of Gyumri with a visit to the Museum of National Architecture and Urban Life. In this remarkable red tuff mansion of Shirak, commissioned by the merchant Petros Dzitoghtsyan in 1872, we'll see an extensive collection dedicated to the daily life, culture and history of Armenia.
The next stop will be the city centre, where we'll go on a walk to admire some of its oldest buildings, some great examples of 19th-century architecture. Next, you'll have 1 hour of free time to explore at your own pace and try some of the local Armenian cuisine.
Before heading back to Yerevan, we'll go on a 30-minute tour of the Harichavank monastery, found on the western slope of Mount Aragats, on a rocky cape. What a high note to end the tour on!
Lastly, we'll say our goodbyes at our initial meeting point after a total of 10 to 11 hours.
