Sroda Slaska, Abbey of Lubiaz & St. Hedwig Tour
Sroda Slaska, Abbey of Lubiaz & St. Hedwig Tour
At 9 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in the center of Wroclaw and head to the town of Sroda Slaska, where we'll have the opportunity to see a real medieval royal treasure.
We'll enter the Regional Museum of Sroda Slaska to admire its collection of works discovered at the end of the 20th century. We'll see 3000 silver coins, priceless jewelry, and a crown of gold and precious stones that may have belonged to Queen Blanche de Valois. Did you know that part of the treasure was stolen during the discovery? The government imposed a plan to return the looted objects, but it's believed that there are pieces that haven't been returned yet.
Then, we'll visit the Lubiaz Abbey, the largest Cistercian monastery in the world. It's a perfect example of the Baroque architecture characteristic of the region and it highlights its great 200 meters long façade. Inside we can see multicolored ceilings, two beautiful refectories, a Gothic church, and the crypt where the Dukes of Silesia are buried.
Afterward, you'll have an hour of free time for lunch. After refueling our batteries, we'll set off for the sanctuary of St. Hedwig in Trzebnica, a convent of Cistercian nuns founded in 1202. We'll admire the late Romanesque interior and learn about stories of famines and fires that this place experienced in the past.
Lastly, we'll be on our way back to Wroclaw, arriving at your hotel at 4 pm.
