10-Day Safari around Namibia
Description
Day 1: Windhoek
Welcome to Namibia! We'll pick you up from Hosea Kutako International Airport and take you to your hotel so that you can drop your luggage. Once you've settled in, we'll begin a guided tour of the capital of Nambia so that you can get to know the main site.
Over 3 hours, we'll take a tour where we'll recount the history of the city and stroll past the most important monuments, such as the Church of Christ, the Sam Nujoma statue, the founding father of the Namibian nation, the old fortress and the Supreme Court.
We'll bring the first day to an end back at the hotel.
Day 2: Windhoek – Namib Desert
After breakfast, we'll hop on a 4x4 and begin the safari. We'll travel south in the direction of the small town of Rehoboth, a necessary step for us to eventually arrive at the Naukluft Mountains, in the famous Namib Desert.
Once there, you'll be left to settle into the accommodation and, after eating, we'll begin a fascinating walking tour around the desert paths which will allow us to admire a stunning sunset from the Elim Dune. We'll see one of the most stunning views in the whole country!
Finally, we'll return to the hotel for dinner and some rest.
Day 3: Namib Desert
We'll have breakfast early to get a headstart on the day. We'll see the first rays of the sun light up the Namib Desert! While we traverse the landscape, we'll be able to see how the colours of the dunes change.
Afterwards, we'll take a short walk around the desert through Deadvlei, where we'll discover the fascinating history of this location as we make our way up Big Daddy, the highest sand dune in the region.
After admiring the land from this privileged viewpoint, we'll walk towards Sossusvlei, a salt flat surrounded by red sand dunes where we'll enjoy a typical picnic-style lunch. After, we'll continue the tour and return to the campsite for some rest.
That evening, we'll visit the Sesriem Canyon, known for being the main entrance point to the Namib Desert. We'll walk around this settlement while checking out its fascinating landscapes.
We'll finish this day off by making our way back to the campsite for dinner
Day 4: Namib Desert – Swakopmund
After breakfast, we'll leave the Namib Desert behind and head towards Swakopmund. Before arriving, we'll first make a stop at Solitaire, a small settlement famous for its apple pie. Care for a slice?
We'll continue travelling along the coastline and pass by the Tropic of Capricorn, the Gaub Pass and the Kusieb Canyon. We'll reach Walvis Bay, whose lagoon is known for its different colours, from greens to pinks, and if we're lucky, we might even see some flamingos!
We'll finish this day back at the hotel in Swakopmund.
Day 5: Swakopmund
On the 5th day, you'll have the entire day free to discover Swakopmund. You can wander around the city, relax on its beaches and enjoy some of the exciting activities that are on offer, from sandboarding, a quad tour or a visit to Sandwich Harbour.
Day 6: Swakopmund – Damaraland
Once we've had breakfast, we'll leave Swakopmund behind and make our way northwards along the famous Skeleton Coast. The first stop of the day will be at the Zeila Shipwreck, a shipwreck that sank in 2008 and has been left abandoned.
After, we'll make our way to Cape Cross, home to a massive colony of sea lions. We'll continue the tour by travelling towards Henties Bay, a prelude to the change of scenery that awaits us upon our arrival in Damaraland, one of the most beautiful and special places in Namibia.
We'll bring this day to a close with dinner and rest at the hotel in Damaraland
Day 7: Damaraland
We'll get up early again and take in the stunning landscapes of Damaraland, along with a sunrise. During the day, elephants will feature heavily. We'll see and learn about how these animals can survive in the desert. It will be an incredible experience!
In addition, after lunch, we'll head for Twyfelfontein to discover one of the largest concentrations of petroglyphs on the entire African continent. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, these figures represent rhinos, elephants, ostriches and giraffes, as well as footprints of both humans and animals.
We'll then return to the hotel and get some rest for the remainder of the day.
Day 8: Damaraland – Etosha National Park
It's time to discover the Etosha National Park! After breakfast, we'll travel through the Galton Gate until we reach the Okaukuejo Campsite where we'll spend the night. Once we've left our things down, we'll begin a safari around Etosha to discover the animals that call this place home. Flamingos, leopards, rhinos, zebras, giraffes, and even lions and elephants. It'll be unforgettable!
We'll finish up this day with dinner and rest at the campsite.
Day 9: Etosha National Park
After some breakfast, this day will be entirely dedicated to exploring the area of the Etosha National Park to continue spotting more animals. Keep your eyes open, you never know what we might see!
After a full day of learning about the behaviours of the different animals in the park, we'll spend the night at the Onguma Campsite.
Day 10: Etosha National Park – Windhoek
The safari will come to an end on the 10th day. After breakfast, we'll make our way to the capital. However, before finishing, we'll visit the leopard reserve to check out these charming animals.
In addition, we'll pass through the local market to see some typical Namibian craftsmanship. Perfect for buying some last-minute souvenirs!
Finally, we'll arrive back at the Windhoek airport before 5 pm.
