Beatrix Potter Lake District Tour
At 9:05 am, we'll meet at Windermere train station and board a minibus to Wray Castle, just 20 minutes away.
At this fortress, protected by the National Trust, we'll begin learning about the links between the writer Beatrix Potter and the Lake District. The creator of the Peter Rabbit character spent her 16th birthday here and, from that moment on, she fell in love with the mountains and lakes of what is the largest national park in Great Britain.
After admiring the exterior of this 19th-century neo-Gothic castle, we'll return to the minibus and head to the village of Near Sawrey, where Beatrix Potter got married.
We'll stroll through Near Sawrey recognizing places that appear in many of the illustrations in Potter's books, such as the Tower Bank Arms building. This is also the site of Hill Top, the house that the writer bought with the proceeds from her early publications.
The next stop of the day will be Esthwaite Water, one of the most unknown springs in the Lake District National Park. This spot was described as "ultra-romantic" by Beatrix Potter. In fact, the nearby village of Hawkshead is where the writer met her husband, William Heelis.
The final part of the tour will be dedicated to exploring the areas where the writer acquired numerous lands and farms. We'll see Tarn Hows, Coniston Water and Yewdale Valley while discovering some of the set locations of the film Miss Potter.
We'll finish the tour at 1:05 pm arriving at the starting point.
