Miles Canyon Hike
At the time indicated we'll meet at the Sternwheeler Hotel main door in Whitehorse. We'll get on a bus which will take us on our hiking route along the Yukon River to explore the area around the Miles canyon.
For three hours we'll hike around the volcanic rocks that make up the Miles Canyon and enjoy the area's amazing views full of forests and trails brightened with the turquoise colour of the Yukon River.
As we continue through the vast outskirts of Whitehorse, we'll learn more about the history and importance of the area which led to the city's development. The gold rush which took place in the region strongly influenced the birth of Whitehorse and established the finish point for paddle-wheel riverboats which navigated the river.
To further appreciate the gold rush history we'll visit Canyon City, a ghost town named a Yukon government Heritage Site. During the 1898 gold rush, the Miles Canyon was one of the hardest obstacles for those travelling through the Yukon River.
We'll return to Whitehorse at approximately 4 pm.
