Malindi Day Trip
Malindi Day Trip
From Hotel Blue Bay IGV in Watamu, we'll set out straight for Malindi, a beautiful port town perfectly sat along the banks of the Galana River, the second largest in Kenya.
After a 30-minute drive, we'll reach this town, which is famous for being one of the most important port cities in the country. Firstly, we'll visit the Malindi Museum, also known as the House of Columns. Inside, we'll see exhibitions on underwater archaeology along the coast of Kenya and an exhibition about the Mijikenda tribes.
The next stop will be in front of the pillar built as a tribute to the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama in the 15th century. This monument was erected as a symbol of the commercial brotherhood between the two countries. You'll also have a beautiful view of the Kenyan coast from here. Photo op!
During the tour, we'll visit the Portuguese chapel, the first Christian church in East Africa, and walk around the city market. The stalls, the typical products, and the local population will captivate you.
Finally, we'll leave you 30 minutes of free time to continue exploring the market and try some traditional dishes.
Then, we'll finish the excursion as we return to Watamu, arriving 3 hours after pickup.
