Delve deep into the life of one of the most famous US historical figures of all time on this guided tour of Old Town Alexandria and Mount Vernon where George Washington lived.
Old Town Alexandria & Mount Vernon Tour Itinerary
Travel back in time on this guided half-day tour of two of Washington DC's most popular nearby destinations. Your comfortable air-conditioned bus will pick you up from the US Navy Memorial and take you out of DC city centre in the direction of the state of Virginia.
Spend the first part of your tour exploring the picturesque streets of President George Washington's hometown: Old Town Alexandria. You'll pass by the colonial-themed buildings that house over 200 restaurants and boutiques, and see important sights such as Robert E. Lee’s childhood home, the imposing George Washington Masonic Temple, and the Historic Christ Church.
You'll then enjoy a drive alongside the scenic Potomac River, reaching the Mount Vernon Estate, the plantation where George Washington resided. Get to know the history of the mansion and the grounds on a guided tour around the house, the gardens and the burial site of the president himself.
During your time at Mount Vernon, you'll have time to eat lunch (not included) and visit the education centre, if you'd like.
