Treblinka Memorial Tour
Description
On the day of the activity, we'll meet in front of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews at the indicated time. Once we're all together, we'll head northwest from the Polish capital, where the Treblinka Memorial is located.
After a 1.5-hour journey, we'll reach the woods of the Treblinka village, where, from July 1942, the most deadly phase of the Final Solution was carried out. During the tour, we'll visit the exhibition area, where we'll learn more about the infamous Operation Reinhard.
Afterwards, as we walk along the symbolic railway track, we'll arrive at the main memorial commemorating the 800,000 victims. We'll see the cracked granite tower as well as other memorial spaces symbolising the cremation pits.
We'll conclude the tour by passing by other memorial sites, such as the quarry and the former forced labour camp of Treblinka I. During the tour, we'll discuss the heroic uprising of prisoners in August 1943 and how when the camp ceased to function, the Nazis tried to erase all evidence.
Finally, after our visit to the Treblinka extermination camp, we'll head to the nearby town, where you'll have an hour of free time to grab some lunch if you wish. Then we'll begin our journey back to Warsaw, where we'll arrive back at the starting point after a total of around 7 hours.
