Viñales Caves Vintage Car Tour Itinerary
After meeting your English-speaking guide at the agreed time and place, you'll hop into a vintage American car - one of the most iconic symbols of Cuba - to begin your tour around the area's most famous caves. Are you ready? Let's go!
You'll be driven to the west of Viñales town, in the direction of the first stop on your route: the Gran Caverna de Santo Tomás, or the "Great Cavern of Saint Thomas" (entrance not included). At 28 miles (48 km) long, this is the island's most important and largest cave system. It is full of fascinating stalactite and stalagmite formations.
Return to your vintage car for the next part of your tour, stopping at Palenque de los Cimarrones (entrance not included). At this living museum partly located in a cave, you'll travel back in time learning about the history of slavery and the legacy of African culture in this region of Cuba.
For the finishing touch on your tour, you'll head to one of Viñales' best known caves: the Cueva del Indio. You'll explore the cavern on foot until you reach the point where you can go no further. At this point, you'll climb aboard a boat and enjoy a cruise through the limestone tunnel, finding cave paintings and archaeological remains from pre-Columbian Cuban cultures.
At the end of your tour, you'll be driven back to Viñales.
