You can select one of the following tour options when you make your reservation. Both itineraries include hotel pickup in Villa Unión, transportation in an offroading vehicle, and a guide. Please note that both routes will traverse high elevations ranging from 2,500 to 4,500 meters (8,200 to 14,760 feet).
Laguna Brava (8.5 hours)
Our journey begins at your hotel in Villa Union, heading north towards Vinchina. Upon arriving in Vinchina, situated in the northernmost region of La Rioja, we'll continue our route through the stunning Quebrada de la Troya. As we reach the end of this breathtaking gorge where we'll be able to spot dinosaur footprints, the small town of Jagüé will be waiting for us.
Departing from Jagüé, we'll continue along the path through the Quebrada Santo Domingo. Along the way, you'll notice several mountain shelters constructed between 1862 and 1874, shortly after the passage of the Army of the Andes through this area. Our journey leads us to the Laguna Brava Provincial Reserve, a mesmerizing high Andean saltwater lake located near the Argentine-Chilean border.
Our exploration of this protected region commences with a visit to the Laguna Brava Viewpoint, where we'll encounter various species of vicuñas, guanacos, and other Andean wildlife. We'll then proceed to the Golfito de los Flamencos to observe the graceful flamingos up close.
Before our return to Villa Union, we'll make a final stop at Laguna Brava to observe the remnants of an airplane. This aircraft had to make an emergency landing in this area in 1964. We'll delve into tons of fascinating fun facts about this flight gone wrong!
Laguna Brava, Geysers, and Laguna Mulas Muertas (10 hours)
If you opt for this extended option, we'll include a tour of the Laguna Brava geysers following the previous itinerary. During this part of the journey, we'll explore the volcanic phenomena, answering your questions about how it occurs and its significance.
Continuing our route, we'll venture to the Laguna Mulas Muertas refuge. At this small saltwater lake situated close to Laguna Brava, we'll encounter a rich variety of Andean wildlife.
From Laguna Mulas Muertas, we'll make our way back to your hotel in Villa Union.
