Pozuzo & Prusia Day Trip
Pozuzo & Prusia Day Trip
At 6 am, we'll meet up in Avenida Leopoldo Krausse and leave Villa Rica behind as we set off for the province of Oxapampa. On our way there, we'll see some of the beautiful scenery in this part of central Peru, such as the Yanachaga Chemillén National Park or the Rayantambo and Yulitunky waterfalls.
Our first stop will be in Pozuzo, a town founded in 1895 by Austro-German immigrants. Did you know that it was the first colony of its kind in the world? The settlers passed their traditions and architectural style on to the new town, so during our visit we'll find wooden and gable-roofed buildings characteristic of Central Europe.
When we get there, we'll take a tour so we can see some of its most iconic spots. These would include the Colonists' cemetery and the replica of the Norton, the ship aboard which the immigrants arrived in Peru.
We'll also visit the Schafferer Museum, where we'll learn more about the history of the Austro-German colonisation through the objects that the first residents brought with them on their voyage from Europe.
Next, we'll head to Prusia. This charming colony is home to beautiful Germanic buildings, which we'll admire before taking a break for a typical lunch that'll include a meat dish and a drink.
After lunch, we'll go to the Emperor Wilhelm I Suspension Bridge and visit an arts and crafts shop and a craft brewery. We'll try some beer at this last spot. Cheers!
It'll then be time to return to Villa Rica. We'll drop you off at the meeting point between 5 and 6 pm.
