Day Trip to Oxapampa
We'll meet at 8 am at Leopoldo Krausse Avenue in Villa Rica. From here we'll hit the road for our jam-paked day in the charming village of Oxapampa. The scenic road trip will take us about an hour and a half.
Once there, we'll set off on a guided tour of Oxapampa and learn about its fascinating history. Did you know that the city was founded by Austro-German immigrants? It was the second colony of its kind, after the neighboring town of Pozuzo.
We'll walk through its streets to see the characteristic wooden buildings which are mostly built with European-style architecture. Among them, the church of Santa Rosa stands out - a jem of Germanic colonial architecture.
Afterwards, we'll visit a handicraft store, where you'll have time to buy some nice souvenirs, and then we'll head over to the Floralp dairy plant, where the workers will show us how they make their delicious products. They have a huge variety of cheeses and yogurts!
Next, we'll enter the Wharapo, a mill that extracts sugar cane juice for the production of traditional drinks, and you'll be able to taste some of these delicious beverages!
After the visit to the factory, we'll leave the city and enter the so-called Selva Encantadora de Oxapampa (Enchanted Jungle of Oxapampa). Here we'll explore the Tunki Cave, a small cavern of stalactites and stalagmites surrounded by vegetation.
Finally, we'll take a break at a ranch where you'll have free time to take part in some activities such as canoeing or horseback riding. Once you've enjoyed all the best that Oxapampa has to offer, we'll return to Villa Rica and leave you back at the starting point at around 6 pm.
