With this hiking route through the Ecological Park La Periquera we'll discover a fairytale landscape bathed by waterfalls and oak forests in the heart of the department of Boyacá.
Hiking in La Periquera Ecological Park
We'll meet at the time of your choice at Carrera 9 in Villa de Leyva and travel to La Periquera Ecological Park, a nature reserve where we'll take a fantastic hiking route.
As soon as we arrive, we'll enter a 2-kilometre-long (1.2 miles) path full of oak trees, escenillos, rosemary, mortillos and chilcos, as well as curious endemic plants.
We'll reach the Cebada riverbed, which crosses the park forming different waterfalls. We'll have the opportunity to see three of these waterfalls, one of them 15 metres high (49 feet), called La Periquera. Do you know the origin of its name? Come along to find out!
During the walk you may come across some of the animals that live in this magnificent environment, such as wild rabbits, armadillos, ocelots and weasels.
Finally, having connected with Colombian nature, we'll set off back to our starting point. Arrival is planned after six hours of activity.
