Kayaking in Vila Franca do Campo
At the indicated time we'll meet at the Vila Franca do Campo Marina, where we'll be waiting for you to start a kayak tour to the islet of the same name.
After a brief introduction, we'll take the kayak and paddles and set out on the waters of São Miguel. Following the guide's kayak, we'll paddle around the front of this island of volcanic origin.
As we paddle, the guide will tell us interesting facts about the formation of this islet of the Azores archipelago. Did you know that it's the crater of a submerged volcano? Or that it's also called the 'Anel da Princesa', or 'Princess Ring'?
During our 5-kilometre (3.1-mile) kayak route, we'll make a stop so you can dive into the Atlantic waters and snorkel! You'll be able to explore the seabed and discover many of the species that live here.
Finally, we'll conclude this kayaking experience by returning to the starting point, where we'll arrive after 3 hours of fun.
Access to Vila Franca do Campo Island
Access to Vila Franca do Campo island is restricted and subject to seasonal limitations due to its Protected Area status, aimed at preserving its natural beauty and biodiversity. Below you'll find the following schedules pertaining to limited activities:
- From April 15 to June 14: it is not allowed to snorkel or walk around the island
- From June 15 to October 15: no restrictions
- From October 16 to October 31: no snorkeling is allowed
- From November 1 to April 14: only walking on the island is allowed
