Shuttle Bus to the DC3 Plane Wreck
At the scheduled time, we'll meet you at the Sólheimasandur Beach car park. From here, the bus will take you to the area around DC3. Let's explore one of Iceland's most iconic and fascinating spots!
After just a 15-minute drive, you'll arrive at the DC3 Plane Wreck. This US Navy aircraft was on a routine flight from Höfn to Stokksnes in 1973 but, after severe icing, was forced to stop its flight on an icy river at Sólheimasandur.
Despite the accident, there were no fatalities. Since then, this plane wreck has been a popular spot for Iceland's visitors. When you get there, you'll have some free time to get up close to the plane and take lots of pictures.
Once you've explored the surroundings and the mystery shrouding the plane, which was abandoned by the US Navy, you'll hop back on the bus to return to the starting point.
Schedule
The bus schedules complete their roundtrip journeys between Vík and the crashed plane DC3 between 10 am and 5 pm. With this in mind, you can stay at the crash site for as long as you wish, as long as it's within this timeframe.
