Follow in the footsteps of the legendary Empress Sissi on this tour of the Hofburg Palace, one of Vienna's most important monuments.

Tour Details

At the indicated time, we'll meet in the vicinity of the Hofburg Palace, the largest palace in Vienna and the former official residence of the Habsburgs. Here, we'll visit the Sissi Museum, a collection of items that belonged to the empress and that are a true reflection of her private life.

Born in Munich in 1837, Elisabeth of Bavaria, whose lineage came from the House of Wittelsbach, was one of the most influential European monarchs of the late 19th century. Why is she still such an attractive figure? After her death in Geneva in 1898, she became increasingly popular, and books, series and films continue to be written about her.

A visit to her museum in Hofburg Palace, which is located in the imperial apartments, will show you why Elisabeth of Bavaria is so popular. The exhibition features the most iconic dresses, jewellery and portraits of Empress Sissi, including a dressing table, the harp she played as a child and even the bed she slept in.

In total, the permanent exhibition collection contains more than 300 objects. The original Sissi costumes and dresses are the most popular with visitors. There are also other curious items on display, such as a 63-piece travel kit that the empress used to take with her on all her travels. The museum also has a reconstruction of the imperial train carriage in which Sissi travelled.

After this exciting visit of the museum, we'll take a short walk around the grounds of the Hofburg Palace, where we'll continue to discover some of Sissi's curiosities.

Finally, after a between a 2.5 and 3-hour tour, we'll conclude this activity outside the palace.
