Sigmund Freud – The Father of Psychoanalysis

"One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful". This is one of just many famous quotes from Sigmund Freud. If you're a real history buff and want to learn all about the life and works of the Father of Psychoanalysis, visiting the Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna is a must!

With this ticket to one of the Austrian capital's most unique experiences, you'll discover what was once the home of this doctor of Jewish origin whose family were forced to flee Austria after the annexation by Nazi Germany in June of 1938.  Freud died just a year later of cancer in London on the 23rd of September 1939.

Freud, naturally, is best known for his work in the field of psychoanalysis. In short, Freud's theory states the following: human actions are not always governed by conscious thoughts but are often driven by unconscious desires and experiences.

What to see at the Sigmund Freud Museum?

Below you can read up on the things to see and do while visiting the Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna:

  • More than 400 objects are on display, these include letters, books and photographs allowing you to delve into his day-to-day life and contextualise the history in which some of his most famous works came to fruition such as The Interpretation of Dreams and The Ego and the Id.
  • Access to all rooms and workspaces used by Freud while living in Vienna. On the mezzanine floor, Freud's first consulting room can be found. From there you can check out the "Library of Psychoanalysis", the archive of the great 20th-century thinker.
