The Austrian Museum of Applied Arts (also known as MAK) is one of the most extensive museums in Vienna. Since the moment it was inaugurated in 1863 to house the Museum of Art and Industry, its collection has expanded to include works from different artistic movements.
A visit to the MAK is a journey through the history of the applied and decorative arts, from the Middle Ages through classicism, baroque and rococo to Art Nouveau.
In the MAK, you'll find all kinds of furniture and accessories made of glass, porcelain, fabric or precious metals. As you stroll through its rooms, you'll be enthralled by the works of prestigious artists such as Gustav Klimt, whose sketches for the decoration of the Stoclet Palace in Brussels are exhibited in the MAK. Other artists whose works you can admire in this museum include Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser, Otto Wagner and Adolf Loos.
In addition, models and designs by famous architects, interior designers, scientists and artists of various kinds are exhibited in its different areas. If you're staying in Vienna and you're after a day of culture, this is the perfect plan for you!
