There are centuries of history to discover in the Austrian capital, whose old town is home to a multitude of surprises and interesting facts that often go unnoticed by tourists. A fun way to discover them is through this exciting treasure hunt in Vienna: The Legends of the Great Plague!
The experience consists of a 10-stop walking treasure hunt. During this 2.5-kilometre (1.5-mile) self-guided walking tour, which takes between 30 minutes and an hour, you'll have to solve riddles, crack codes and answer questions. The clues to these challenges will be sent to your phone via an app.
The route starts at Ruprechtsplatz. From this central square, you'll head towards iconic landmarks in Vienna's historic centre, such as St. Stephen's Cathedral, the picturesque Figlmüller district and the iconic Basiliskenhaus building. The tour ends in front of the Hofburg Imperial Palace, where you'll have to solve the last clue.
What is the Story of the Quest?
The storyline of this adventure quest is as follows: you'll take on the role of Marx Augustin, a famous 17th-century minstrel who travels through Vienna during the Great Plague of 1679.
This character is the only one who can bring some hope to the sick people of Vienna, whose inhabitants live in fear of the Great Plague, one of the deadliest in Europe at the time.
Your mission is to explore the old town of Vienna by following the various clues. During your route, you won't only discover the history of the Great Plague, but you'll also learn a lot of interesting facts about the Austrian capital.
