Ciénaga de Zapata National Park Tour
Description
At the scheduled time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Varadero to begin this trip to the Ciénaga de Zapata National Park. Time to explore one of the most amazing ecosystems in Latin America!
After around 2 hours we'll arrive at the largest wetland in the insular Caribbean. Once there, we'll begin a 2.5-kilometre hiking route to explore the rich nature on this unique area. Did you know that this park has been declared a Nature Reserve by UNESCO?
During the trip, we'll marvel at the mangroves which are native to this region, are vital for the protection of the coastline and are home to a wide variety of wildlife, including 258 species of birds, 43 types of reptiles and 15 mammals. We'll also learn many different details about these fascinating creatures.
Then, we'll take a break at La Cueva de los Peces Cenote on the Zapata Peninsula, where you'll be able to take a delightful dip. Afterwards, a typical Cuban lunch will await us. Delicious!
After eating, we'll visit the Bernabé Garden to see the native and migratory birds. With some luck, we'll be able to see species such as Zapata wrens, St. Thomas hens, crested grebes, hummingbirds, long-tailed hawks, Cuban parakeets, marsh goats, herons, flamingos and cranes.
Our final stop will be at a crocodile farm, where you'll be able to see these fascinating reptiles in their habitats.
We'll bring this end to an end after 11 hours together back at the starting point.
