Beagle Channel Cruise and Sea Lion Island

  • 227 reviews | 2,981 travellers
The sailing is AMAZING. You can't say you've been to Ushuaia if you haven't sailed the Beagle Channel. And we loved the Canoero catamaran. It does move around quite a bit, though, so we recommend biodramina for those who get seasick. And of course, a round of applause for the guy who gave the explanations over the loudspeaker on the boat, they were super interesting. Plus, he was very friendly, always willing to answer all the questions.

Beagle Channel Cruise & Sea Lion Island

After meeting up at Ushuaia tourist pier, we'll set sail towards the islands of the Beagle Channel, the narrow waterway in Tierra del Fuego that serves as the natural border between Argentina and Chile.

Firstly, our cruise will take us near to the Isla de los Pájaros, or Bird Island. You'll soon see how it earned this name when you observe the many different species of birds here: from seagulls to albatrosses to ducks and more. Our boat trip will then continue onwards to another important place in the archipelago, the so-called Isla de los Lobos, or Sea Lion Island. Get your cameras ready: you won't want to miss snapping photos of the adorable sea lion colony!

We'll make our way to the tiny islet on which the Les Éclaireurs Lighthouse is located, where we'll get to see the large colony of cormorants who live in the area. We'll also hear all about the tragic shipwreck of the SS Monte Cervantes, which sank here in the 1930s.

The next stop on our tour will be at Puerto Karelo, where we'll disembark for a brief 20-minute guided tour, during which you'll have the opportunity to photograph the local wildlife. Following our walking tour, we'll return to the boat for the cruise back to the starting point, where we'll arrive after our 2.5 hour tour.
