Albino's Eye Glacier Hiking Tour
Albino's Eye Glacier Hiking Tour
We'll pick you up at 8:30 am at your hotel in Ushuaia and drive north along National Route 3.
After a half-hour drive through the spectacular Fuegian valleys, we'll stop at kilometre 20 of the road. There we'll begin a 5-kilometre hike (3 miles) through the valleys of Tierra Mayor and the Esmeralda River.
This initial route, which will take about two hours, will pass through pristine Fuegian forests and white mountains and glaciers. At around 10 am we'll arrive at the Esmeralda lagoon, and from here we'll start the trekking route to the Albino's Eye Glacier.
The first stage of this hiking route will take about 60 minutes. After this hour's walk, we'll begin to see the impressive blocks of ice as we walk further into the glacial landscape. When we reach 7 kilometres (4.3 miles), we'll stop for a picnic lunch, which includes a sandwich, an alfajor, a traditional South American sweet treat, and a cereal bar.
After this break, we'll warm ourselves up with a cup of tea, coffee or mate cocido, a traditional infusion, we'll continue our route to the Albino's Eye glacier. The last 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) will consist of a 1200-metre (3937 feet) ascent to the glacier.
Finally, at 3 pm we'll return to the starting point of the hike. From there we'll return by road to your hotel in Ushuaia, where we'll arrive at 8:30 pm.
