Vitcos Excursion
Vitcos Excursion
We'll pick you up at your hotel at 4 am to cross the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We'll travel part of the Abra Málaga Route, observing peaks that reach a towering 4,316 meters high, before descending through the Lucumayo Valley.
Then, we'll arrive in Huancacalle, where we'll take a break for you to have breakfast on your own. Afterward, we'll begin a hike to Vitcos, also called Rosaspata. This archaeological complex, together with Hatun Vilcabamba and Espíritu Pampa, were the bastions of the Inca resistance in the 16th century.
Do you know the history of the four Incas of Vilcabamba? During the tour, we'll reveal who these rulers were and why they made this sacred place an important stronghold during the resistance.
We'll tour the beautiful fortresses and funerary monuments of Vitcos, and admire its pink stone constructions. The complex is composed of three sectors: the main square, the ceremonial monuments and the Ñusta Hispana. In the latter, you can find the Wanca, from which it was believed that energy could be extracted. We'll also see the "White Rock," a sacred stone with representations of the Inca Cross or Chakana.
After having uncovered the most enigmatic mysteries of Vitcos, we'll start our pick-up point. On the way back, we'll pass through the town of Lucma to check out the colonial Baroque-style church of San Pedro and San Pablo and admire its curious bell tower and mural paintings.
Then, after stopping at a local restaurant for lunch on your own, we'll arrive at your hotel at 9 pm.
