San Lorenzo Church Guided Visit
We'll meet at the entrance to the church at the scheduled time and start our guided visit around one of Úbeda's most historic buildings. Built on the Almohad wall, San Lorenzo Church houses crypts, a parapet and a bell tower that'll we'll explore.
As we enter the church, which boasts over 800 years of history, we'll see its nave, sacristy and doorway leading to the sacristy as well as the murals located inside. If you look up, you'll see the mesmerising alfarje panelled ceiling that dates back to the Mudejar period.
Did you know that San Lorenzo Church has been closed for almost a century? The church is currently being restored and is also undergoing archaeological work. From Romanesque to Baroque, this historic building preserves the heritage of different cultures and styles at every turn.
After descending down to the crypts, we'll return to the main floor and head outside. Next to San Lorenzo Church, we'll find the viewpoint from which we'll look out at wonderful views of Úbeda's distinctive hills. From the wall, we'll also gaze at a unique view of the Guadalquivir Valley, a characteristically Andalusian landscape framed by orchards and white farmhouses.
If we look a little further in the distance, we'll be able to see the Cazorla and Segura mountain ranges. The cherry on top of this idyllic scenery will be the enchanting sunset draping a gentle shade of gold over the domes and towers in Úbeda's old town, which is a World Heritage Site.
