Escape from Tuxtla Gutierrez for a day to discover one of Chiapas' most spectacular natural landmarks: the Sumidero Canyon. You'll also explore the magical colonial town of Chiapa de Corzo.
Sumidero Canyon & Chiapa de Corzo Tour
We'll pick you up from your hotel and set off on our journey to the Sumidero Canyon. After a short drive, we'll board a boat that will take us on an in-depth tour of this natural wonder.
During the boat tour of Sumidero Canyon, which lasts about two hours, we'll sail between the sheer rock walls of the canyon, which towers above us at approximately 1,000 (3280 feet) meters high. We'll also get to admire the lush vegetation characteristic of the area and spot different species of wildlife that inhabit this part of Chiapas. Keep your eyes peeled for crocodiles, spider monkeys, and pelicans!
Once we finish the boat trip, we'll travel to Chiapa de Corzo, the first colonial city founded by the Spaniards in 1528. We'll learn all about its fascinating history as we discover its most important buildings and monuments, including a Mudejar-style fountain from the 16th century and the ex-Convent of Santo Domingo.
You'll then have an hour of free time to get some lunch before we head to the Sumidero Canyon viewpoints to see the impressive gorge from a whole new perspective.
We'll end our excursion by returning to Tuxtla Gutierrez, arriving 8 hours later.
Zoomat
The Sumidero Canyon viewpoints are closed on Tuesdays. If you book this tour on a Tuesday, you'll visit Zoomat, a zoo with endangered species, instead of the viewpoints.
