Tunja Food + History Tour
Highlights
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Tunja at the scheduled time as we begin our discovery of the picturesque capital of Boyaca, whose slogan is the "Cradle and workshop of freedom".
We'll begin your tour of Tunja by heading towards Bolívar Square. Here we'll see the façade of the Cathedral of Santiago. Just beside this temple is the House-Museum of Gonzalo Suarez Rendon, where we'll learn about the history of this Spanish conquerer who founded the town of Tunja on the 6th of August 1593.
We'll continue this visit at the House-Museum of the scribe Don Juan de Vargas, dedicated to yet another famous individual associated with the colonial history of Tunja. After learning this legend, we'll be brought to a restaurant where we'll be served a typical Bayocanese lunch to recharge our batteries. The meal with include a starter, a main course of meat or fish and a drink.
After eating, we'll make our way towards the forest of the republic, a park in which we'll see the martyr's wall, where we'll be told stories of the famous individuals of Tunja. After this, you'll visit the viewpoint of freedom. From this point, also known as Bolivar's Rock, we'll be able to enjoy magnificent panoramic views of Tunja.
The final stop will be at the Battle of Boyaca Bridge, dedicated to the battle that eventually led to the independence of the viceroyalty of New Granada. We'll learn about its history before returning to the centre of Tunja.
The tour is expected to take around 7 hours.
