We'll pick you up from your hotel in Tunja and kick off our guided visit as we head to the historic downtown area, declared a national monument for its extraordinary beauty. It's a district replete with colonial architecture, where period houses alternate with imposing 16th-century churches.
During this 5-hour walking tour, we'll appreciate 15 different doorways adorning the facades of many significant buildings in Tunja. Many are carved from Spanish or local stone, while others exhibit Neoclassical influences. This represents a significant aspect of the real estate heritage of Boyacá city.
Located 2,775 meters (9,104 meters) above sea level, we'll discuss fun facts about this amazing capital, the tallest in Colombia, as we walk through it. For example, did you know Tunja ranks as one of the safest cities in this coffee-growing nation? Its rich historical significance as the epicenter of Colombia's Independence in 1810 adds to its cultural and national importance.
To conclude our tour, we'll recharge with a traditional Boyacá meal. The menu features an appetizer, a choice of meat or fish for the main course, and a refreshing beverage.
