Tunisia 8-Day Tour
Tour Details
Day 1: Tunis - Hammamet
When you land, we'll be waiting for you at the arrivals terminal of Tunis-Carthage International Airport to take you to the hotel in Hammamet so that you can leave your luggage. You'll have the rest of the day to yourself to settle in and rest before starting your day trip the next day. Plus, dinner is included in your accommodation.
Day 2: Hammamet - Kairouan- Tozeur
After breakfast at the hotel, we'll leave the town behind and head to Kairouan, one of the oldest cities in Tunisia. We'll take a guided tour of its historic centre, admiring its mosques and discovering why this land is so important in Islam.
We'll have lunch in a restaurant in Gafsa and finally arrive in Tozeur. Here, we'll stroll through its Medina, a perfect example of the traditional architecture of the 16th century, and end the day having dinner and resting at the hotel.
Day 3: Tozeur - Chebika - Midès - Tozeur
On the third day of this tour of Tunisia, we'll wake up at the hotel in Tozeur and, after breakfast, set off to explore the beautiful countryside surrounding the city. We'll cross the Shatt al Gharsah salt lake and arrive at the Chebika Oasis, then stroll through palm groves and waterfalls and visit the ancient city located in this area. Did you know that it was founded by the Romans?
We'll hit the road again and head to the Midès Canyon, which is more than 30 metres (98 feet) deep. This amazing natural formation, created by the passage of water during the rainy season, has been featured in several films, including the famous Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Finally, we'll return to Tozeur for lunch, where you'll have the afternoon completely free to explore the area at your leisure. Dinner will of course be included at the hotel.
Day 4: Tozeur - Chott El Djerid - Douz - Ksar Ghilane
Once again, we'll have breakfast at the hotel in Tozeur and spend the day travelling through landscapes that are as arid as they are spectacular. We'll take pictures of the Chott El Djerid, another of the salt lakes that stretch across North Africa, and arrive in the town of Douz, known as the Gateway to the Desert.
We'll visit the Douz market, have lunch in the area and, in the afternoon, make our way to the dunes of Ksar Ghilane. As night falls, we'll experience a magical evening dining and camping in the desert. You'll never forget it!
Day 5: Ksar Ghilane - Matmata - Sfax
After waking up, we'll have breakfast at the Ksar Ghilane camp and board the minibus for Matmata. If you're a fan of the Star Wars saga, you'll be fascinated! This place was used as a filming location for these movies. We'll see the famous troglodyte houses and learn how rock-hewn dwellings were built.
At lunchtime, we'll eat in a restaurant before arriving in Sfax in the afternoon. As we stroll through its historic centre, we'll talk about its origins taking in its walls and its Great Mosque, dating back to the 9th century. Fun fact: this coastal town is one of the main oil producers in Tunisia.
At the end of the day, we'll enjoy dinner and stay the night at a hotel in Sfax.
Day 6: Sfax - El Djem - Sousse- Hammamet
After breakfast at the hotel, we'll go straight to El Djem, a town famous for its ruins from the Ancient Roman Empire. Its amphitheatre, built in 238, is a World Heritage Site.
Following that, we'll pay a visit to Medina of Sousse, also protected by Unesco. It's a perfect example of the cities built in the first centuries of Islam. We'll visit its souks and ribat, a fortification that played a fundamental role in the defence of the city.
We'll then have lunch in a restaurant and finally arrive in Hammamet, where we'll have dinner and stay overnight.
Day 7: Hammamet - Sidi Bou Said - Tunis
On the penultimate day of our tour, we'll have breakfast and visit the archaeological ruins of Carthage. Walking around this complex we'll be able to see different constructions of Roman origin, including the only thermal baths still standing in Africa.
Near Carthage we'll find the village of Sidi Bou Said, which stands out for its white houses with blue doors and windows. Don't forget your camera! We'll enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before venturing into the centre of Tunis in the afternoon. While in Tunis, we'll visit its medina.
We'll go back to the hotel in Tunis to have dinner and rest until the next day.
Day 8: Tunis
On the last day, you'll also get breakfast at the hotel. Finally, when the time comes, we'll take you to Tunis-Carthage airport in time for your flight back home. Until next time!
