Day 1: El Jem – Matmata – Douz
After picking you up from your hotel early in the morning, we'll head to the magnificent amphitheatre of El Jem. Inside this ancient Roman monument, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will find out all about the fierce gladiatorial battles that took place here. Our tour then continues, heading into the interior of the country, to discover the amazing cave-houses of Matmata, which were carved into the rocks by inhabitants to shelter from sand storms.
After enjoying a free hour for lunch in Matmata, we then head into the Douz desert. Here, in these wonderful dune landscapes, you can take an optional camel or quad bike ride for an extra fee. We finish the day in Douz, where you will rest, have dinner, and stay in a local hotel until the next day.
Day 2: Douz – Chott Djerid – Oasis – Kairouan
Once you have had breakfast in Douz, we will leave for Chott Djerid to visit its salty lake. Then from here, we'll make our way to the Atlas range to visit the mountain oasis of Chebika and Tamerza.
We'll eat lunch before heading to the holy city of Kairouan to see the magnificent Great Mosque crowned by huge beautiful domes.
Having finished our fantastic adventure, we then head back to the capital city and drop you at the hotel you have booked for that night.
