"If he came to Cascas and didn't drink wine, what did he come for?" So goes an old saying in Cascas, considered the Peruvian capital of grapes and wine. Learn why it has earned this name on this excursion from Trujillo.
Cascas Excursion
We'll meet in the Plaza de Armas at 6:40 am and hit the road to the town of Cascas, a 2-hour 30-minute drive from Trujillo. On the way, we'll stop in the town of Sausal so you can stretch your legs and get yourself some breakfast.
Cascas is the capital of the district of the same name, but it is known for something much more attractive: being the capital of grapes and wine. Having been the first wine-producing city in Peru, Cascas contributed to strengthening the participation of the country's specialties in the international market. Burgundies, rosés, moscatos... This city in northwestern Peru has an ideal climate for growing grapes.
On this tour of Cascas, we'll visit the Cristo de las Rocas, an amazing natural monument named by local residents, as it represents the face of Jesus Christ. A few meters away stands the Tree of a Thousand Roots, a millenary species that displays its countless roots above ground. We'll also visit the beautiful El Molino Waterfall and the Corlas fish farm, where you'll have some free time to have lunch on your own.
Next, we'll visit Cascas Square and set off from here to one of the area's famous vineyards. After learning about the importance of winegrowing in this region, we'll taste some wines from Cascas. Cheers!
We'll then leave this town behind and return to Trujillo, where we'll arrive back at the starting point at around 8 pm.
