Trondheim Guided Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Torvet, Trondheim's bustling main square, ready to embark on a fascinating guided tour of this historic Norwegian city. Along the way, we'll not only discover the city's rich history but also dive into its deep-rooted fishing traditions, which have shaped its culture for centuries.
Our first stop is the magnificent Nidaros Cathedral. This striking Romanesque and Gothic masterpiece took a whopping 230 years to complete! As we admire its awe-inspiring architecture, we'll learn about its significance as the traditional site of royal coronations and its role as a pilgrimage destination.
Just a short stroll from the cathedral lies the Archbishop's Palace, a medieval stone structure that once served as the seat of the Archbishop of Nidaros. Today, it houses several museums and is the venue for the famous Olavsfestdagene festival. As one of the largest medieval stone buildings in Scandinavia, it's a must-see for any history enthusiast.
Next, we'll head to the Old Town Bridge, known locally as Gamle Bybro. Crossing the serene Nidelva River, this charming red bridge will lead us to the enchanting neighbourhood of Bakklandet. Here, we'll wander through narrow cobblestone streets lined with quaint wooden houses, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of this picturesque part of Trondheim.
From Bakklandet, we'll make our way to Solsiden, which literally means "the sunny side" in Norwegian. This lively district, once an industrial area, is now one of the trendiest spots in Trondheim, brimming with cafés, shops, and restaurants. Its waterside location makes it the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely stroll. As we continue our walk, we'll walk by the city's canal before reaching Trondheim Central Station.
Our final stop is Stiftsgården, the royal residence in Trondheim. With an impressive 140 rooms, this wooden palace is one of the largest wooden buildings in Northern Europe. Built in the late 18th century, it has hosted numerous royal events, including 4 coronations.
Finally, after 3 hours of exploring Trondheim's rich history and vibrant culture, we'll return to our starting point at Torvet, where the tour will come to an end.
