Moxos Jesuit Missions & Coitarama Lagoon
Moxos Jesuit Missions & Coitarama Lagoon
At 6 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Trinidad and head north to the towns of San Javier and San Pedro. These towns are two of the ancient Jesuit reductions that were founded in the Moxos province of southern Bolivia.
Our first destination will be San Javier, which is located on the right bank of the Mamoré River and was one of the first Jesuit missions in Moxos. We'll visit the Church of San Javier and learn about the history of the colony before hitting the road again. On our way to the next stop, we'll stop for breakfast.
When we get to the reduction of San Pedro, we'll admire the church. This church has been restored from the ruins of the old mission. While we're here, we'll have a lunch of fried fish or dried meat washed down with a fruity drink.
Once we've had something to eat, we'll travel on to our next stop. This will be the Coitarama Lagoon, which is also known as Pistola Lake. Let's find out the story behind this unique name!
In the area surrounding this lagoon, you'll be able to admire the wildlife and spot animals such as insects, birds endemic to the area and the mammals that live on its shores.
If we're unlucky with the weather and can't get to the lake, we'll head to the banks of the Ipuru River. Here, you'll be able to spot freshwater dolphins swimming in the water.
We'll then return to Trinidad and drop you off at your hotel at around 6 pm.
