Ibare-Mamoré Protected Area Guided Tour
Ibare-Mamoré Protected Area Guided Tour
At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Trinidad and set off for Puerto Ballivián, the gateway to the Ibare-Mamoré Municipal Protected Area.
Having travelled 5 miles (8 kilometres), we'll come to Puerto Ballivián. We'll then hop on a boat and cruise along the Ibaré River for 2 hours. During our boat trip, we'll discover why it's also known as the River of the Birds.
As we follow its course, we'll come to the spot where this tributary and the main river, the Marmoré, meet. We'll make stops along the river to visit the town of Loma Suárez and the community of San Carlos, where we'll see the Mapajo natural monument. In addition, we'll take a walk to see the tropical plant crops such as yucca, syringa and banana trees.
During the route, we'll also have the opportunity to see this ecosystem's wildlife, where species endemic to the Amazon such as the Manguari heron, the bato and the river heron live.
Once our walk has come to an end, we'll set sail once more to the mouth of the Mamoré River, where we'll pause to observe the famous freshwater dolphins and take a swim in the warm water.
It'll then be time to return to the boat to have a picnic lunch, after which we'll hop off our boat and get on the bus that'll take us back to Trinidad. You'll be dropped off at your hotel at 4 pm.
2-Day Tour
If you choose this option, you'll spend another day exploring the Ibare-Mamoré Municipal Protected Area.
After having lunch on the boat, we'll return to the community of San Carlos. Florencio the farmer will welcome us into his home and offer us a dinner of fish or dried meat. Afterwards, we'll go deep into the Bolivian Amazon to observe different animals and spend a fun night camping.
On the next day, we'll have breakfast and then set off on a hike around the Usuni Lagoon. Here, we'll admire the lush scenery and try some sport fishing. We'll then eat the catch of the day for lunch and return to Puerto Ballivián to set off on our journey back to your hotel, where we'll arrive in the afternoon.
