Fish Fauna Museum Tour in Beni
Fish Fauna Museum Tour in Beni
At the scheduled time, we'll pick you up from your hotel and drive to the outskirts of the city. We'll head to the Campus of the Autonomous University of Beni, which is based in Trinidad.
When we get there, you'll find yourself at the Fish Fauna Museum. This unique institution exhibits an important collection of fish species from the Amazonian rivers and the lagoons of the Moxeño plains.
As we stroll through its rooms, we'll learn about the endemic species that inhabit the Ibare, Mamoré, Madre de Dios and Madera Rivers in the department of Ibare. Did you know that they're all tributaries of the Amazon River?
The museum houses 446 different species of fish, which are classified according to characteristics such as weight. Some specimens weigh up to 330 pounds (150 kilograms)!
Among the different species you'll find the pacu, from the piranha family, better known by its other name: the testicle-biting fish. If you think this is just a nickname, wait till you hear the story behind it!
Other fish that we'll see during our guided tour of the Beni Museum are the surubí or the shoefish. You'll also be able to see a specimen of the bufeo, which is a freshwater dolphin.
After visiting the museum, we'll take you back to your hotel in Trinidad and drop you off 1 hour after pickup.
