Description
The beautiful Loire Valley awaits us! At the time indicated, we'll depart from the Tourist Office in Tours. After a minibus ride of just 40 minutes, we'll arrive at the famous Château de Chenonceau, also known as the "Château des Dames" (The Ladies Castle). Do you know which illustrious women of the French Renaissance popularized this beautiful palatial residence?
The Château de Chenonceau is best known for its arches over the Cher River. In fact, this design is attributed to one of the women who lived here. While we unveil its history, inside the castle we'll also discover that another illustrious female character decided to change the name of the palace. Its official name changed from "Chenoceaux" to "Chenonceau". The reason has an interesting explanation, but all in good time!
After visiting the castle of Chenoceau we'll head to Amboise. In this historic town located on the banks of the Loire River, we'll stop at one of the most famous wineries in the region: the Caves Ambacia. The sommeliers of this center of reference in wine tourism will show us its underground galleries, where we'll enjoy a tasting of three French wines.
After having lunch on your own, we'll head for another of the Loire Valley's must-see monuments: the Château de Chambord. Inside this former royal residence, one of the greatest of the French Renaissance, we'll learn how the Gallic kings promoted the arts and sciences during the 16th century. In fact, thanks to the efforts of this monarch, Leonardo da Vinci spent the last years of his life in France. The legacy of the Tuscan polymath is very present in the Loire Valley, as we'll see in certain architectural elements of Chambord.
After the visit to Château de Chambord, we'll return to Tours, and arrive at the Tourist Office after 9 hours.
