Private Tour of Tortosa

  • 21 reviews | 454 travellers
We loved the guided tour, what we saw was very interesting, but especially what we heard. The complete, entertaining and instructive information we received from the guide was the best I have enjoyed in the many trips and guided tours I have had the opportunity to participate in. Congratulations for having such a prepared, entertaining guide who is in love with the history of this city.

Private Tour of Tortosa

We begin this private tour of Tortosa, well, whenever you like (the tour is exclusively for you after all!) in front of the Castillo de la Zuda Castle today home to a Parador Nacional hotel.

Having learnt all about the history of this 10th-century Arab fort, we'll make our way to the historic centre of Tortosa. First, the tour explores the cobbled streets leading to the Santa María Basilica, the inside of which you can visit upon the tour's end. Then we'll explain the secret history of its facade, looking out onto the river Ebro.

The route then continues aorund the old town, taking in the outside of other emblematic monuments, such as the Reales Colegios, or the Episcopal Palace. And your expert guide will fill you in on the Renaissance life of the city, as you take in the most important buildings from the time. Among those, perhaps the most famous is the Oliver de Boteller Palace, a marvl of Gothic engineering from the 16th century.

The last leg of the guided tour takes place on the banks of the River Ebro. In this part of Tortosa, we'll remember the battle of Ebro, which marked the coming of the Spanish Civil War between July and November 1938.

Following two and a half hours, we'll bring the private tour to an end by the model of the Tortosa Cathedral. This small scale model shows how the outside would have looked, should the 1626 project proposed by Martí d’Avaria have come to fruition!
