Liébana Monastery Pilgrimage
Liébana Monastery Pilgrimage
At 9:30 am we'll pick you up from the Pabellón Municipal La Habana Vieja in Torrelavega and head to Western Cantabria by minibus. After just 1 hour, we'll be in Potes, one of the most beautiful villages in the region of Liébana.
Once in Potes, we'll show you how to get to the Santo Toribio de Liébana Monastery on your own. The journey on foot from Potes is only 40 minutes, and it'll be enough to obtain the Lebaniega pilgrimage credential. In the monastery, you'll see a fragment of the True Cross, and you can also attend the pilgrim's mass which takes place daily at midday. During the ceremony, the True Cross, or Lignum Crucis, will be blessed and you'll be able to touch it.
After mass, you can visit the San Miguel Hermitage, a small Romanesque church just 5 minutes away from the monastery. Next to the hermitage, you'll find a viewpoint from which you'll see breathtaking views of the Picos de Europa. We'll convene in front of the hermitage and return to Potes by minibus.
In this beautiful village, you'll have a delicious lebaniego stew, which is an excellent way to get your strength back after the walk. You'll then have 2 hours of free time to stroll around Potes at your leisure and visit its main monuments, such as the Casa del Oso Pardo (Brown Bear House) or the Infantado Tower.
We'll then head to the village of San Sebastián de Garabandal, where you'll have the chance to visit Los Pinos, an area where many believe that several Marian apparitions have taken place. Afterwards, we'll return to Torrelavega, where we'll arrive at 7 pm.
