Victorio Macho Museum + Rafael Canogar Space Tickets
Why Visit Roca Tarpeya?
Located on a unique promontory overlooking the Tagus River in Toledo is Roca Tarpeya, the place chosen by the sculptor Victorio Macho to build his house and workshop in 1953.
Today, this beautiful building houses the Victorio Macho Museum, managed by the Royal Foundation of Toledo. With your ticket to the permanent exhibition, you'll visit the different rooms with an audio guide in English. Here, you'll see some of the most important works by this contemporary sculptor, such as La madre (The Mother) and Mi hermano Marcelo (My Brother Marcelo).
The collection also includes portraits of illustrious figures such as Marañón and Unamuno, as well as sketches and reproductions of monuments that can be found throughout Spain and much of Latin America.
In Victorio Macho's old studio, known as the ‘tallerón’, you'll find the Rafael Canogar Space, dedicated to this abstract artist from Toledo. Here, you can visit the exhibition Proyecto I: La construcción de un lenguaje, meaning 'the construction of a language', made up of around 30 paintings and sculptures. In the same space, you can watch the documentary "Rafael Canogar. El amor por la pintura", produced by the UNED Channel.
In the museum you can also visit the Roca Tarpeya garden. It's a haven of peace in the heart of Toledo's Jewish quarter, where you'll see several sculptures by Macho and Canogar, and have magnificent views of the San Martín bridge, the Tagus river and the cigar plantations in the area. It's also worth visiting the museum's viewpoint, which offers unbeatable panoramic views.
The audio-guided tour lasts 40 minutes, however, you can stay in the museum for as long as you like.
