Asakusa Free Walking Tour
Tour Details
We'll meet near the centrally located Asakusa Police Station, at the indicated time, to start an exciting free tour of Asakusa. Ready to explore one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Tokyo? Let's go!
Our journey begins as we stroll down the picturesque streets of Asakusa towards Sumida Park. In the spring, this park turns into a beautiful sight as 700 cherry blossom trees begin to bloom. Here, we'll head to a viewpoint to admire the city from the banks of the Sumida River, which are sure to captivate you no matter the season. Cameras ready!
Next, we'll walk over to admire the Kaminarimon and Hozomon Gates. The Kaminarimon, also called “Thunder Gate”, is the first of two entrance gates leading to the Sensoji Temple. Just beyond it stands the Hozomon Gate, a two-story structure leading to the temple. As we take in the intricate architectural details, we’ll uncover the rich history of these iconic landmarks, dating back nearly 1,000 years.
Then, we'll make our way to another Asakusa highlight, Nakamise Dori Street, one of Japan's oldest shopping streets. Here, we'll find handmade crafts, souvenirs, and even famous snacks that have been enjoyed for generations!
From here, we'll walk over to the Asakusa Shrine, one of the most famous Shinto shrines in the city. As we pause to take in its serene atmosphere, we’ll delve into its fascinating history and deep connection to the nearby Sensoji Temple.
Afterward, we'll bring our journey to an end in front of the Don Quijote Asakusa shop after an exciting 2.5 hours exploring Asakusa.
