History, colonial haciendas and a church in the shape of a boat are the highlights of this tour of Tlaxco. We'll visit the most iconic places of this Magical Town in the state of Tlaxcala.
Tlaxco Tour
Between 9 am and 10 am, we'll meet at the agreed meeting point and we'll go by minibus to the centre of Tlaxco to start a walking tour in which we'll get to know the history and the main monuments of this Magic Town.
Located 2500 metres (8202 feet) above sea level, Tlaxco is one of the highest towns in Mexico. We'll stroll through its streets admiring its colonial architecture and learning about the past of this town. Do you want to know who were the first settlers of this land? And discover what role Tlaxco played in the independence of the country?
On the guided tour of Tlaxco we'll enter a 17th-century hacienda or estate, where we'll taste one of the most typical gastronomic products of the town, 'pulque'. We'll learn how this alcoholic beverage is made from the fermented sap of the maguey (agave) plant. Then afterwards, we'll visit a carpentry workshop. Here, we'll see several pieces of handicraft, including a wooden car.
Next we'll continue the tour by boarding a minibus that will take us to the Barca de la Fe, a church in the shape of a boat located in the village of José María Morelos Buenavista. We'll look at the similarities and differences of this ship with the famous Santa Maria that accompanied Christopher Columbus on his voyage to America.
We'll finish our tour of Tlaxco leaving you at the starting point between 3 pm and 4 pm.
