Tirana Raki & Meze Tasting
Activity Details
After meeting at the designated time at Rruga e Dibrës Street, behind the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Albania, we'll give a short introduction and walk for 10 minutes until we reach the shop where we'll have our raki tasting.
Once we get there, we'll sit at a table to begin this sensorial journey through the world of raki, the spiritual beverage famous in Albania. First, we'll explain the distillation process, following the methods that have been passed down for generations. You'll learn about the history of raki, which dates back to the Ottoman Empire, when raki was a symbol of hospitality.
We'll then begin our tasting and try a total of seven raki varieties, each one paired with Albanian mezes, or appetizers. Among them, you'll enjoy byrek, grilled vegetables, cheeses with intense notes, olives, and local cured meats. Each bite will enhance the note of the raki even more. It'll be a delight for your taste buds!
Throughout the experience, you'll learn many facts, like how raki tends to be served at family occasions and how toasting with raki is almost a meaningful ritual. We'll wrap up the activity by discussing Albanian culinary traditions.
Finally, we'll head to the initial starting point, where we'll say our goodbyes after 2.5 hours.
