Durrës Day Trip + Winery Visit
Day Trip Details
We'll meet at the indicated time at Rruga e Dibrës and drive to Durres, one of the most important cities in Albania.
After approximately 50 minutes' drive, we'll reach our destination and begin our guided tour of Durres.
First of all, we'll head to the Roman amphitheatre, the main attraction of the city and one of the largest in the Balkan Peninsula. As we visit its ruins, we'll learn all about its history and hear curious facts about its architecture. For example, did you know that a third of the amphitheatre was held up by natural supports?
After exploring the remains of the Roman amphitheatre, we'll visit the Sfinksi Monument, a modern structure that mimics the Sphinx of Egypt and offers the best views of the coast and the city. We'll then head to the heart of the historic centre of Durrës and stroll through its lively streets between cafés, historic buildings and markets while we tell you about the origins of the city.
Having delved into Albania's past, we'll continue the tour to the Duka winery, a 30-minute drive away. Upon arrival, we'll start a 40-minute tour where we'll learn about the winemaking process, the Albanian grape varieties and the properties of the soil of the region.
After the tour, we'll head inside to enjoy a traditional lunch of homemade Raki. We'll savour an assortment of appetizers, a main course of meat, a salad of fresh seasonal produce, a dessert, wines from the cellar and water.
Feeling refuelled, you'll have free time to relax on the lake near the winery, where you can choose between a kayak or a boat ride—it's up to you!
Finally, we'll meet again and return to the meeting point in Tirana, where we'll finish this 8-hour tour.
