Few adjectives can accurately describe the beauty of Tucuman's landscapes in northern Argentina. We'll see for ourselves on this excursion to Tafí del Valle.
Tafí del Valle Tour
From your hotel in Termas de Río Hondo, where we'll pick you up at 8 am, we'll head north along National Route 9 towards the spectacular landscapes of Tucumán, located in the northern part of Argentina.
On the way to Tafí del Valle, we'll make several stops in the surrounding area to get to know the history and nature of this area. First we'll stop in Simoca, well known for its traditional carriages called sulky. If you do the tour on Saturday you'll be able to visit its regional fair.
After the stop in Simoca, we'll take Route 307. This highway, known as the road of the yungas, will allow us to cross the exuberant landscapes of the Tucuman jungles. There we'll pause again to admire the imposing sculpture of the Monumento al Indio (Monument to the Indian), six metres high (19 feet).
From the sculpture we'll continue the route through the hills of the valley of Tafi, where we'll reach the maximum altitude of the excursion: 2000 metres (6561 feet)! We'll appreciate these landscapes from the well-known La Angostura dam.
The dam is only 20 minutes away from Tafí del Valle, the most important village of the whole region we have covered on this excursion. You'll have two hours of free time for lunch and to explore the town, where you can enjoy the El Pelao trail and the Jesuit Museum La Banda.
After lunch we'll return south, making an intermediate stop in Famaillá to visit the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. From there we'll finally return to your hotel in Termas de Río Hondo, where we'll arrive at 7 pm.
