Cafayate Tour
Cafayate Tour
We'll pick you up at 5 am at your hotel in Termas de Río Hondo, and from there we'll head north to visit Cafayate and its surroundings.
First of all, we'll leave the region of Santiago del Estero behind and enter the territory of Tucumán. In this northern province of Argentina we'll cross the extensive landscapes of the Tucumán jungle up to the Angostura dam. After seeing its landscapes, we'll follow the route to the Abra del Infernillo pass, where we'll reach an altitude of 3042 metres.
On the way to Cafayate, we'll continue our route through the province of Tucumán, crossing the Calchaquí valleys. There we'll stop at the Pachamama Museum in Amaicha del Valle to admire the works of the sculptor Héctor Cruz. As we'll see, his creations are closely linked to the culture of the region.
The next stop will be at the archaeological site of Quilmes, where we'll see one of the main pre-Columbian areas in the north of Argentina. We'll learn about the history of this ancient settlement, and then we'll enter the province of Salta to visit Cafayate.
Upon arrival, we'll take a guided tour of Cafayate to see its main monuments. Among them, the cathedral of Nuestra Señora del Rosario stands out: one of the only three churches in South America with five naves. The other great attraction of the town is its Calchaquí wines. We'll learn how the wines are produced by visiting the Vasija Secreta winery.
Afterwards, you'll have an hour free for lunch in Cafayate and finally we'll start our way back to the south. You'll arrive at your hotel in Termas de Río Hondo at 8 pm.
