Mt Cook Day Trip
Mt Cook Day Trip from Tekapo
After gathering at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tekapo and hopping into our vehicle for the day, we'll leave Tekapo behind to reach Mt. Cook, the highest peak in New Zealand.
We'll arrive at Lake Pukaki and marvel at the striking color of its waters, which can change from a light icy blue to a deep and rich dark blue, depending on the weather. If we're lucky enough to have a clear sunny day, we'll be able to spot Mt. Cook from here!
Next up, we'll pile back into our vehicle for a short journey to the famous Mt. Cook National Park, also known as Aoraki. At this location, you can explore the area at your own pace. Be sure to check out either the Hooker Valley or the Tasman Glacier. Choose your own adventure!
If you opt for Hooker Valley, you'll be able to hike along ice-covered cliff faces culminating with an ice-filled lake at the foot of Mt. Cook. Plus, if you listen carefully, you may even hear the glacier moving.
On the other hand, the Tasman Glacier track will lead you through the glacier's old terminal moraines and offer stunning views of the glacier, river, and lake.
Then, enjoy some tasty local Kiwi cuisine with lunch provided by Fairlie Bakehouse, as you enjoy the stunning views of the park. You'll be able to sit back and relax at the Mt. Cook Information Center, where you can learn all about the park's history!
Finally, we'll pick you up again and begin our drive back to Tekapo, arriving at the meeting point 5 hours later.
