Tour Options
Soar over Lake Tekapo when you embark on a flyover adventure over the incredible New Zealand alpine landscape. Choose your own adventure from the three following options. All take off and land from Lake Tekapo Airport and feature jaw-dropping views!
30-Minute Helicopter Tour
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Lake Tekapo Airport, ready to take off on a scenic flight by helicopter over the surrounding area. Get ready to take in stunning views of Lake Tekapo’s turquoise waters, the village, and Mt. John’s Observatory from above!
As we pass over hill-country homesteads, including Mt Hay, Glenmore, and Godley Peaks Sheep Stations, we’ll make an exciting alpine landing at a sheep station perched at 5,500 feet (1,676 meters) above sea level. We'll get breathtaking views of the mountain landscape.
After capturing the moment, we’ll continue flying over spring-fed Lake Alexandrina, contrasting with the glacial-fed Lake Tekapo. Then, with sweeping landscapes imprinted in our memories, we'll touch back down 30 minutes later, bringing the experience to an end.
50-Minute Light Aircraft Tour
On this scenic flight from Lake Tekapo in a small plane, we'll experience the stunning glacial landscapes of New Zealand from a unique aerial perspective. From the comfort of your own personal window seat, we'll soar over Aoraki Mount Cook, New Zealand’s highest peak. We'll also fly over and the Tasman Glacier, taking in breathtaking views of glaciers, turquoise lakes, and the famous braided rivers of the Mackenzie Basin.
During the flight, we'll spot high-country sheep stations and glacial valleys that characterize the region, along with the golden tussock lands that also define this dramatic landscape.
Our journey also takes us over Westland Tai Poutini National Park, where Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers stretch toward the nearby rainforests and the Tasman Sea. Keep your cameras ready as we fly over some of New Zealand's most remote landscapes! After an exciting 50 minutes, we'll touch back down, bringing the experience to an end.
1-Hour Helicopter Tour
When you take off on this scenic flight by helicopter, over the turquoise waters of Lake Tekapo, get ready to observe the intricate rivers that feed into it, along with Mt John Observatory.
We'll soar over Glenmore and Godley Peaks Sheep Stations, and marvel at the rugged terrain and steep mountains of the Cass, Fork, and Jollie Valleys, home to the region’s merino sheep. Along the way, our pilot will share fascinating insights into the farming of these sheep as we fly by.
Throughout the flight, we'll pass over Tasman Glacier, where we can look down at the milky waters of the Tasman Terminal Lake. Keep your eyes peeled for the Tasman River, formed by the glacier's melting ice, as it flows into Lake Pukaki!
On this flight, we'll also spot Aoraki Mount Cook, Mount Tasman, and Tai Poutini National Park, home to the Franz and Fox glaciers.
To end this flight experience on a high note, we'll make an alpine snow landing on Liebig Dome at 7,700 feet (2,346 m), where we'll step out and enjoy panoramic views of Mount Cook National Park. Alternatively, depending on weather conditions, we may land at one of the huts in Cass Valley on Glenmore Sheep Station.
After an unforgettable 60 minutes in the air, we'll touch back down, bringing the experience to an end.
